The Brief

Hitachi Vantara create innovative data solutions across industries as an integral arm of the global Hitachi group. They were looking to create a new workplace for their London team that would inspire them everyday. The project needed to support Hitachi’s key drivers for growth; Green, Digital and Innovation. Blue Jelly were shortlisted to pitch to the wider Hitachi team. Through this process we were able to develop genuine relationships with the team, build a clear understanding of the project goals and demonstrate our personality and capabilities.

What We Did

Our engagement workshops found there was a desire to create a ‘destination’, somewhere the team was proud of and loved come to. Our designs reflected this with spaces to collaborate, recharge, socialize, work quietly, have meetings, take phone calls and embrace new ways of working. The meeting rooms celebrate the London skyline, using landmarks as room names. The main open-plan space includes booths for collaboration, closed pods for meetings and a variety of work settings to enable flexible working. The breakout and lounge offer unique locations for recharging throughout the day. ESG was a key consideration for this project. Our team were able to reuse mechanical components, flooring and carpets. Through reupholstering and repurposing we managed to reuse 93% of Hitachi’s furniture, complimenting this with some new feature pieces. Biophilic design brings planting into a workspace that is flooded with natural light from the panoramic windows.

The Results

Hitachi’s new workplace was delivered on time and under budget. Attendance in the workplace has significantly increased with feedback from the team that they love coming into the new workplace. The response from Hitachi’s clients has been overwhelmingly positive. The lounge area is an inspiring location to entertain external stakeholders.
